The New Orleans Saints face a pivotal offseason following quarterback Derek Carr’s abrupt retirement, a move that could trigger a long-awaited roster overhaul.

With Carr’s departure, first-year head coach Kellen Moore inherits a flawed squad led by an unproven quarterback trio of Tyler Shough, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener. As the Saints pivot toward rebuilding, star running back Alvin Kamara has emerged as a prime trade candidate to accelerate the team’s youth movement.

General Manager Mickey Loomis, who has delayed a full rebuild since Drew Brees’ retirement, now confronts a roster ill-equipped to compete.

Kamara, a five-time Pro Bowler, remains a valuable asset despite his declining peak form. While no longer elite, the 29-year-old could fetch a mid-round draft pick (likely a fourth or fifth-rounder) for a Saints team in need of future capital. Below are four contenders that could leverage Kamara’s dual-threat skills:

Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones’ reluctance to invest heavily in running backs has left Dallas with a lackluster backfield of Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders, and rookie Jaydon Blue. Kamara’s versatility as a rusher and receiver would instantly upgrade an offense anchored by a stout offensive line, offering Prescott a reliable safety valve.

Kansas City Chiefs

Isiah Pacheco’s physicality complements Kansas City’s ground game, but his limited receiving chops hinder Andy Reid’s playbook. Kamara’s route-running prowess and open-field agility could revive Reid’s creativity, echoing the success of Kareem Hunt in his prime.

Chicago Bears

After failing to trade up for Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty in the draft, Chicago’s backfield hinges on D’Andre Swift—a shaky fit for Ben Johnson’s system. Kamara’s familiarity with Johnson’s scheme from their NFC North rivalry could reignite his production in a Bears uniform.

Cincinnati Bengals

Chase Brown showed promise as Cincinnati’s lead back in 2024, but his durability concerns linger. Pairing Kamara with Brown would create a dynamic committee, preserving Brown’s health while adding a proven pass-catcher to Joe Burrow’s arsenal.
