The NFL has revealed its finalists for the prestigious AP Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards, and Alabama is well represented.
Running back Derrick Henry and defensive back Pat Surtain II, both former Crimson Tide stars, earned spots on their respective lists.
Henry, who made a move to the Baltimore Ravens after eight seasons with the Tennessee Titans, had an outstanding season. He rushed for 1,921 yards, ranking second in the league, and led the NFL with 16 touchdowns. This impressive performance has earned him a finalist spot for Offensive Player of the Year. In 2020, Henry won the award while with the Titans.

The other finalists for the honor include Philadelphia’s Saquon Barkley, Cincinnati’s Joe Burrow, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Surtain, in his fourth season with the Denver Broncos, has also been recognized for his stellar play. This year, he posted 45 total tackles, four interceptions (including a pick-six), a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. His strong performance earlier this week earned him the honor of being named the PFWA Defensive Player of the Year.
He is now a finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year award alongside Philadelphia’s Zach Baun, Cleveland’s Myles Garrett, Cincinnati’s Trey Hendrickson, and Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt.
Both players continue to represent Alabama’s strong football legacy on the national stage.
