Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson will miss spring practice as he continues to recover from a knee injury sustained during the 2024 season.

The junior revealed his status in an interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network (CTSN) on Thursday, providing an update on his recovery and future plans.

“I’ll definitely try to stay around as much as I can, obviously,” Lawson stated. “But, yeah, before I’m active, probably fall camp.”

The Mobile, Alabama native suffered the injury during Alabama’s November 23 loss to Oklahoma, which ended his season early. As a result, Lawson missed the Crimson Tide’s victory over Auburn in the Iron Bowl and their season-ending loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

Despite playing an incomplete season, Lawson recorded impressive stats in 2024, amassing 76 total tackles, including 36 solo stops. He added two sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, four passes defended, and his first career interception, showcasing his defensive prowess.

Lawson also shared details about his recovery, saying:

“I’m walking now and still progressing through rehab. I’ve been participating in modified workouts to stay involved.”

An integral part of Alabama’s defense over the past three seasons, Lawson is expected to make a significant impact in 2025. While Alabama will navigate spring practice without him, Lawson’s return during fall camp should bolster the Crimson Tide as they prepare for the upcoming season.
