NHL Trade Rumors: Alexander Romanov Drawing Strong Interest from Bruins and Flyers as Islanders Explore Options
New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov is generating considerable trade interest this offseason, with the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers reportedly among the frontrunners. Romanov, 25, just completed a three-year, $7.5 million contract and is now a pending restricted free agent.
According to NHL insider Marco D’Amico, the Bruins and Flyers are closely monitoring Romanov’s status as newly appointed Islanders GM Mathieu Darche begins reshaping the roster. Both teams are aiming to strengthen their defenses after disappointing campaigns that saw them miss the 2024–25 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Romanov, a former first-round pick, contributed 20 points this season and has logged 221 games for the Islanders since joining the team. Over his tenure, he has posted 64 points (13 goals, 51 assists) along with 465 blocked shots and 502 hits—highlighting his value as a physical, two-way defender.
The Bruins, in particular, are actively seeking reinforcements across their lineup. They are also in talks with Russian forward Maxim Shabanov of the KHL, as they look to boost their offensive depth. Shabanov’s agent stated that playing time and roster fit will be the key factors in his client’s NHL decision.
With Romanov’s future uncertain and interest heating up, the Islanders may soon find themselves with a difficult decision as trade activity ramps up across the league.
