The Atlanta Braves may be facing a major leadership change at the end of the 2025 MLB season, with increasing speculation surrounding the future of longtime manager Brian Snitker.

After a disappointing campaign that has fallen short of expectations, there are growing rumors that Snitker may retire following the season.

In the wake of this potential vacancy, former Chicago Cubs manager and 2016 World Series champion David Ross has emerged as a leading candidate to take over in Atlanta.

Eric Cole of Athlon Sports recently predicted Ross could be in line to succeed Snitker, despite his uneven managerial tenure with the Cubs. Though his time in Chicago ended abruptly, Ross remains a highly respected figure within Major League Baseball.

“David Ross checks a lot of boxes,” Cole noted. “He’s a well-regarded former catcher, was popular among his players, and represents a mix of traditional baseball values and modern analytical thinking. He’s currently without a managerial position and has ties to Atlanta, having played four seasons with the Braves.”

Ross, who played 15 years in MLB, suited up for the Dodgers, Pirates, Padres, Reds, Red Sox, Braves, and Cubs. While his next move remains uncertain—partly due to family commitments—Cole suggests the Braves should at least reach out.

If Snitker steps down, the Braves may look to Ross not just for his experience, but also for his leadership and familiarity with the organization’s culture. With no current coaching role, Ross could be a natural fit—should he be ready to return to the dugout.
