The New Orleans Saints are nearing a major decision in their search for a new head coach, with only one vacancy left in the NFL.

As the clock ticks, the Saints have reportedly zeroed in on Kellen Moore, the offensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles, as their top candidate.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Moore is scheduled to meet with the Saints again before the Super Bowl, where the Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs. However, the Saints’ quarterback situation could pose a challenge in finalizing the deal.

Dianna Russini of  The Athletic highlighted on her Scoop City podcast that the uncertainty surrounding the Saints’ quarterback room might deter Moore. Last season, the Saints cycled through Derek Carr, Spencer Rattler, and Jake Haener due to injuries and inconsistent performances. Despite this, Russini noted that Moore has reportedly “come around” on the idea of leading the Saints, recognizing the team’s need for a significant rebuild.

The Saints are reportedly down to two final candidates: Moore and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Moore, who has led one of the league’s top rushing units with Saquon Barkley in Philadelphia, could find a similar opportunity in New Orleans with star running back Alvin Kamara.

However, success may not come quickly. The Saints have struggled since the retirement of franchise legend Drew Brees, missing the playoffs for four consecutive seasons and failing to reach the NFC Championship game since 2018.

As the Saints prepare for a potential rebuild, all eyes are on whether Moore will take the helm and steer the team back to its former glory.
