Sydney Roosters legend Anthony Minichiello has given a chilling firsthand account of being caught just metres away from a horrifying terror attack after gunfire erupted beneath his apartment, forcing him to duck for cover as a bullet struck his building.

Minichiello, whose residence overlooks the bridge where two terrorists launched a violent attack on innocent civilians, revealed he was inside his apartment when the terrifying incident unfolded. Speaking about the moment chaos broke out, the former NRL star said he was relaxing in his lounge when the sound of gunshots shattered the calm.

“I was on the lounge and heard gunshots,” Minichiello explained. “A couple of neighbours below came out and then a bullet hit the building.”

The impact of the gunfire sent shockwaves through the apartment complex, turning an ordinary moment into a life-threatening situation. Realising the danger, Minichiello was forced to take cover as emergency services rushed to the scene and authorities worked to contain the unfolding crisis.

The incident has underscored how close the violence came to everyday residents, with Minichiello’s account highlighting the randomness and brutality of the attack. While he was not physically harmed, the former Roosters captain was left shaken by how narrowly he avoided serious injury.

As investigations continue and authorities piece together the events surrounding the attack, Minichiello’s experience serves as a stark reminder of the real and immediate impact such acts of terror have on communities far beyond the initial target.
