Sydney, June 18, 2025 – In the midst of swirling speculation surrounding Daly Cherry‑Evans’ potential move to the Roosters, 19‑year‑old halfback Toby Rodwell has firmly committed his future to the club, dismissing suggestions he might depart due to increased competition.

Rodwell’s composure in his approach is underpinned by patience and ambition. He has stated he’s content to bide his time and develop steadily within the club structure, ready to embrace any opportunity when the timing is right.

Family ties continue to inspire Rodwell: his older brother, Tom, who turns 24 in September, has impressed with the NSW Cup side—leading the team in tries (15), ranking second in line breaks (13), and third in post‑contact metres (669). Toby and Tom share a long‑held dream of playing together at NRL level—a dream that remains alive and fuels their on‑field synergy.

“I’ve loved playing a couple of NSW Cup games with him… We definitely debrief after the game when we’re eating dinner,” Rodwell shared.

Once back healthy, club mates Sandon Smith, Hugo Savala, and Sam Walker—expected to make his comeback soon—will further deepen the Roosters’ halfback stocks. Even with that depth chart alongside experienced campaigners Matt Burton, Toby Sexton, Cassius Tia, and potential Cherry‑Evans, Rodwell remains steady in his belief that this internal competition will only sharpen his game.

NSW Under‑19s coach Josh Jackson, previously Woods’ Bulldogs mentor, praised Rodwell and rival Mitch Woods as standout talents.

Jackson highlighted Rodwell’s strengths: strong leadership, humility, a sharp football IQ, and a potent running game—qualities that position him as “a run threat” with composure and maturity beyond his years.

Jackson acknowledged the club’s role in managing the progression of young talent. “I’m sure the club won’t want to rush Mitch,” he said, signaling a careful and developmental-first pathway across the board.

Outlook and significance

Rodwell’s public assurance is a strong endorsement of Roosters culture, reinforcing that youth development and competitive inclusivity remain core values—even amidst high-profile joins.

As the Roosters navigate potential arrivals and depth charts, Rodwell’s resolve sends a clear message: the pathway remains meritocratic, and genuine talent will find its way through. Should Cherry‑Evans’ move materialise, it may well excite emerging hooks rather than close doors.
