Penrith Panthers winger Tom Jenkins has capped off a remarkable rise in 2025 by signing a new contract with the club, ensuring his stay until the end of the 2026 NRL season.

The 23-year-old’s journey has been anything but conventional. After being granted an early release by the Newcastle Knights at the conclusion of 2024, Jenkins began the year in the Ron Massey Cup with St Marys Saints — a third-tier competition in New South Wales. However, his performances quickly caught the attention of Panthers officials, leading to his elevation to the NRL squad.

Since his call-up, Jenkins has emerged as one of Penrith’s most dynamic outside backs. In 2025, he has tallied seven tries, two try assists, 32 tackle busts, 12 line breaks, and is averaging 143 running metres per game. Most recently, he notched a hat-trick in the Panthers’ win over the Wests Tigers.

His standout form earned him a spot in the New South Wales Blues’ training squad ahead of Game 2 of the State of Origin series against Queensland in Perth — a major endorsement of his growing reputation.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Jenkins’ efforts have now been recognised with a new and upgraded full-time NRL contract.

Speaking earlier in the year about his move from Newcastle to Penrith, Jenkins told Zero Tackle:

“It wasn’t a bad blood thing with the Knights. It was a mutual thing and what’s best for both of us in that sense. I needed to go away and chase something and enjoy it.”

His commitment and transformation this season highlight not only his personal growth but also the Panthers’ continued ability to identify and develop emerging talent.

Jenkins will now look to build on his success as Penrith push for a strong finish in the 2025 NRL season.
