Penrith Panthers enforcer Moses Leota is bracing for an emotional and physical encounter as he prepares to face former teammate and close friend James Fisher-Harris when the Panthers meet the New Zealand Warriors this weekend.

The highly anticipated showdown marks the first time Leota and Fisher-Harris will play on opposite sides after forming one of the NRL’s most formidable front-row pairings at Penrith.

The duo played pivotal roles in the Panthers’ recent premiership success, forging a bond built on mutual respect, toughness, and shared Samoan heritage.

Fisher-Harris, who made the high-profile move to the Warriors this season to be closer to family in New Zealand, has quickly stamped his authority on his new club. While the pair remain close off the field, Leota insists all friendship will be put aside once they cross the white line.

“It’s going to be a bit weird seeing Fish in different colours, but once the game starts, it’s on,” Leota said. “We had a great partnership and achieved a lot together, but now we’re both focused on doing our jobs for our teams.”

Leota acknowledged the challenge of going up against one of the most relentless forwards in the game, but said he’s looking forward to testing himself in what promises to be a bruising battle in the middle.

“He’s a machine and he’s going to be fired up. But I’ll be ready — I know what to expect,” Leota added.

The Panthers, coming off a mixed run of form amid key injuries, will be eager to assert dominance and secure crucial points as the finals race heats up. Meanwhile, the Warriors see this as a statement opportunity, bolstered by Fisher-Harris’ leadership and intensity.

Kick-off is scheduled for Sunday afternoon in what is shaping to be a fiery and emotional contest between two proud clubs — and two former teammates turned rivals.
