Brisbane Broncos veteran halfback Adam Reynolds has opened up on his decision to remain at Red Hill beyond the 2025 NRL season, revealing he turned down a lucrative $1.5 million offer from the Wests Tigers to stay close to his family and transition into a coaching role.
The 34-year-old playmaker was the subject of serious interest from the Tigers, who reportedly offered him a two-year deal worth $750,000 per season.

Reynolds admitted he was “seriously tempted” to link up with Tigers coach Benji Marshall — a player he idolised growing up — and partner with star recruit Jarome Luai in the halves.
“Yes, I was seriously tempted,” Reynolds told Fox League. “Benji is a great coach… I spoke to him about how me and Jarome could have worked. He’s instinctive, I’m an organiser — I think I could’ve added a lot to that team.”
However, the premiership-winning half said the prospect of leaving his young family in Brisbane ultimately proved too much to bear.
“But at the end of the day, family is the most important thing, and if I did leave for Sydney, it would have been without the family, and that was going to be too hard,” he explained. “No amount of money could have changed my mind.”
Reynolds is now set to sign a one-year extension with the Broncos for 2026, with a succession plan in place that includes him stepping into a coaching position after retirement.
The news also eases concerns that the Broncos could lose their captain at season’s end, amid ongoing salary cap pressure with key players like Payne Haas, Selwyn Cobbo and Kotoni Staggs due for upgrades.
Reynolds, who is preparing for his 300th NRL appearance, remains a crucial figure in Brisbane’s title push and his leadership and game management are seen as vital assets — both now and into the club’s coaching future.
