The National Hockey League has officially recognized Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes for his outstanding 2024–25 campaign, naming him to the NHL’s Second All-Star Team.
The announcement was made in a unique format ahead of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, as part of a 30-minute televised awards segment that replaced the league’s traditional Las Vegas ceremony.

Despite being sidelined for 14 games due to injury, Hughes delivered a remarkable season, amassing 75 points (16 goals, 59 assists) and maintaining a plus-two rating across 68 games.
The 24-year-old defenseman played a pivotal role in keeping Vancouver competitive in the playoff race until they were mathematically eliminated just a week before their final regular-season fixture.
Hughes, who previously earned First All-Star Team recognition and captured the Norris Trophy last season, was a finalist for the Norris again this year. However, he finished third in voting behind winner Cale Makar of the Colorado Avalanche and runner-up Zach Werenski of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In addition to his All-Star selection, Hughes swept six team awards in April, including the team MVP, further solidifying his status as a franchise cornerstone.
The NHL’s announcement revealed the 2024–25 All-Star Team lineups via social media. Hughes joins a distinguished Second Team that includes Victor Hedman, Brandon Hagel, Leon Draisaitl, David Pastrnak, and Andrei Vasilevskiy.
This marks Hughes’ debut on the Second All-Star Team and underscores his consistency and impact at the elite level. The Canucks were quick to celebrate the achievement, posting on social media:
“Shining brightest across the league Congrats to Captain Quinn Hughes on being named to the 2024–25 NHL Second All-Star Team!”
As Hughes continues to establish himself among the NHL’s premier blueliners, his leadership and performance remain central to the Canucks’ ambitions for the seasons ahead.
