Canterbury Bulldogs captain Stephen Crichton has pushed back against claims of discord within the team following the arrival of rising star Lachlan Galvin, assuring fans and media that the locker room remains tight-knit and focused.
Speaking from State of Origin camp on Wednesday, the 24-year-old addressed concerns after footage emerged showing a frustrated Reed Mahoney in the aftermath of the Bulldogs’ commanding King’s Birthday victory over the Parramatta Eels.
Despite the Bulldogs enjoying a strong campaign, with 14 rounds placing them among the NRL’s top contenders, Galvin’s high-profile move to Belmore has stirred speculation about the harmony within the playing group.

Crichton, however, was quick to dismiss any talk of division, commending how Galvin has settled into the side.
“We just wanted to learn what was the honest truth with everything,” he said. “He got his opportunity on the weekend and I was so happy to see him shine and smiling too. Especially after a stressful week—new club, a lot of noise—he handled it really well.”
Crichton praised Galvin’s attitude, describing him as a passionate player from a supportive background who quickly built rapport with his new teammates.
“We’re just happy to have him at the club,” he added. “The connection between the boys and him is probably the most vital thing.”
Meanwhile, Mahoney’s future at the Bulldogs remains in the spotlight. Although under contract until the end of 2026, the hooker has been granted permission to explore opportunities with other NRL clubs, prompting speculation about an early departure from Belmore.
Despite the potential distractions, Crichton stressed the importance of maintaining team unity as the Bulldogs prepare for a finals run.
