Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols Look to Flip 4-Star Alabama DB Commit During Key Knoxville Visit making waves on the recruiting trail once again, this time targeting a major SEC rival’s prized commit.

Four-star cornerback Zyan Gibson, currently pledged to Alabama, has scheduled an official visit to Knoxville this coming weekend—sparking renewed speculation about a potential flip in his recruitment.

Gibson, a standout defensive back from Fort Payne, Alabama, made his visit plans public via social media on Tuesday, catching many in the recruiting world by surprise.

Committed to Alabama since December 2024, Gibson was widely seen as a firm lock for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. However, Heupel and his staff are working hard to change that narrative.

Tennessee isn’t alone in the pursuit. Gibson just wrapped up an official visit to Ole Miss, where head coach Lane Kiffin also made a strong impression. With more than 20 scholarship offers in hand, Gibson is one of the most coveted defensive backs in the 2025 class.

He is currently ranked as the No. 4 cornerback and the No. 48 overall player in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite.

Given his in-state ties, Alabama is still considered the frontrunner. However, Tennessee’s ability to bring him to campus for an official visit suggests the race is far from over.

The Vols are pulling out all the stops this weekend, hosting an impressive group of recruits that includes elite 5-star EDGE prospect Tristian Givens.

Gibson’s upcoming trip to Rocky Top could prove pivotal. While Alabama is fighting to retain the talented defender, Tennessee now has an opportunity to present a compelling case for a flip.

With the recruiting trail heating up and decision day still months away, this weekend’s visit could be a game-changer for the Vols’ 2025 class.
