The Brisbane Broncos have swiftly moved to secure veteran halfback Adam Reynolds’ future, finalizing a one-year contract extension through 2026 amid unexpected interest from the Wests Tigers.

The deal, set to be formalized ahead of Round 16, aims to quash speculation of a bidding war after the Tigers’ bold approach to lure the playmaker.

Reynolds, 34, confirmed discussions with the Tigers but emphasized his priority to remain in Brisbane.

“My focus is on staying here and helping the Broncos navigate our salary cap challenges,” he told Triple M. “It’s about keeping this squad together.”

Despite potential offers exceeding $700,000 on the open market, Reynolds is poised to accept a reduced salary, with the Broncos also offering post-career roles, including assistant coach or club ambassador. His manager, Steve Gillis, clarified:

“This isn’t a bidding war. Adam’s priority is Brisbane. If terms align here, other clubs won’t be entertained.”

To accommodate Reynolds’ retention, Brisbane has begun roster adjustments, granting halfback Jock Madden permission to explore opportunities elsewhere, while releasing Martin Taupau and considering moves for Fletcher Baker.

The Broncos’ decisive action underscores their commitment to retaining leadership and experience as they build toward future campaigns, with Reynolds’ decision highlighting loyalty over financial gain in an era of rampant player movement.
