Former Penrith Panthers outside back Taylan May has addressed speculation about his NRL future amid growing rumors of interest from a Sydney-based club, though he remains open to opportunities league-wide.

May, a 2022 Rugby League World Cup representative for Samoa and one of the game’s rising stars, saw his career paused after an off-field incident led to domestic violence charges, which were later withdrawn. NRL CEO Peter V’landys confirmed earlier this year that the 22-year-old is eligible to return to the field, stating:

“he’s free to play.”

As his management explores potential opportunities, reports have linked May to the South Sydney Rabbitohs, who face a shortage in outside backs due to injuries. 9News reporter Danny Weidler hinted at the connection during 100% Footy, suggesting incoming Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett could play a pivotal role in reviving May’s career:

“There’s a whisper Taylan May could be in the sights of the Rabbitohs… Wayne Bennett could help him re-establish himself. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a look.”

Despite the speculation, May revealed his “dream” is to join the Wests Tigers alongside older brother Terrell May, though he emphasized flexibility.

“I’ll just put it out there—I honestly wanna play with my brother,” he told 9News. “It would light a bigger fire inside me… But you’ve got to come to reality. If it doesn’t fall my way, I’d definitely go to another team.”

May declared himself ready to return immediately (“I will play next week”), asserting he poses “no risk” to clubs considering him. His comments highlight a blend of personal ambition and pragmatism as he seeks to reignite his NRL career.
