The New York Yankees are facing a familiar frustration as Jazz Chisholm Jr., their dynamic but injury-prone infielder, suffered yet another setback.

During Tuesday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, Chisholm exited with left oblique discomfort after visibly struggling at the plate. An MRI is scheduled to determine the severity, but for a player with a lengthy injury history, the timing couldn’t be worse.

Acquired from the Miami Marlins for his explosive power-speed combo and defensive versatility, Chisholm has delivered moments of brilliance in pinstripes, including 18 homers in 281 at-bats since the trade. But his 2024 campaign has been uneven—batting just .181 with an AL-high 39 strikeouts—before this latest health scare.

The Yankees, already thin on infield depth, now face tough questions about their reliance on Chisholm, who has missed over 220 games since 2021 due to various injuries. Prospect Jorbit Vivas could get a long-awaited call-up, but he’s no substitute for Chisholm’s elite ceiling.

As injuries continue to plague the roster, the Yankees must confront whether Chisholm’s high-risk, high-reward profile is sustainable—or if his latest absence will further expose their lack of contingency plans.
