Alabama football is set to utilize wide receiver Ryan Williams in more versatile ways during the 2025 season, according to head coach Kalen DeBoer.
Following the team’s latest spring practice, DeBoer revealed that Williams, who primarily lined up on the outside in 2024, could see more action in the slot this year.
The addition of Miami transfer Isaiah Horton, a 6-foot-4 receiver, and the return of Jalen Hale provide Alabama with greater depth and flexibility in its receiving corps. This allows the Crimson Tide to experiment with Williams in different positions, creating a more unpredictable offense.
In 2024, Williams played 289 snaps on the outside and just 78 in the slot, per Pro Football Focus. With Kendrick Law no longer on the team, Alabama could deploy a three-receiver set featuring Horton and Germie Bernard on the outside, with Williams in the slot.
DeBoer emphasized the importance of versatility, stating:
“We want to have a very unpredictable offense. Certain guys in certain spots don’t carry over from week to week, and we can utilize their strengths.”
As Alabama continues spring practice, fans can expect to see Williams in a more dynamic role come fall.
